DESIGN THOUGHT PROCESS: TURNING UNATTRACTIVE INTO USEABLE

Where do I put down my toiletry bag? That was the first question Joanne asked herself when she was redesigning this space for Bear Mountain Inn. This bathroom was small, and the layout made it almost impossible to be comfortable in it. Joanne redesigned the space to incorporate the underutilized back wall into the design. With some salvaged wood on three sides of the wall, she was able to visually create drama while giving definition for the counter width. There is an open shelf underneath for toiletries and extra items, which leaves lots of space on the counter for the guests to use. This easy design uses a simple wood (you can even use birch plywood as long as it’s sealed well), a mirror that was once in another room, and a vintage handle that serves as the hand towel holder. Little touches like these add some personality and character to a space.
